Parliament mourns the victims of the flooding in Spain

Today, the European Parliament held a minute of silence in honour of the victims of the flooding in Spain. Addressing the Plenary, the President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola said that the Parliament is ready to help in any way during the process of recovery and rebuilding, including through more flexibility to get financial assistance moving.

Two weeks ago, devastating flooding swept across Eastern and Southern Spain – destroying communities, wrecking livelihoods and killing hundreds. Europe remains in shock and in mourning for the hundreds of people who lost their lives.

The European Parliament remains by the side of Spain in these difficult times.

And we are ready to help in any way during the process of recovery and rebuilding, including through more flexibility to get financial assistance moving.

We will be holding a debate later today on these terrible floods, the urgent need to support the victims, to improve preparedness and to fight the climate crisis.

And I invite you to join me for a minute of silence.
