To the women in Iran: We hear you. The world sees you. We are with you.

Once again, the President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola paid tribute to the brave, defiant men and women protesting in Iran. In her speech, she also made reference to the sanctions adopted today.

In view of a wide human rights sanctions package adopted today, I would like to pay tribute, once again, to the brave, defiant men and women still protesting in Iran. The world is witnessing a generation stand up for their rights.

This women-led movement cannot be left alone and the these sanctions adopted today will hold accountable those who are responsible for the brutal crimes against women, youths and men - demonstrators outraged by the death in police custody of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini.

To the women on the streets: We hear you. The world sees you. We are with you.
