Today the European Parliament honoured the victims of the 13th November attacks that took place in Paris 10 years ago. In her statement, President Metsola said that Parliament remains committed to fighting terrorism.

Dear colleagues,

Tomorrow November 13th marks ten years since the Paris terror attacks that stole over 130 lives, injured more than 400 people, and left countless others carrying the invisible wounds of trauma.

We remember every life taken that night. The families whose stories were cut short. The destroyed futures of so many young people who were simply enjoying their time with friends. We stand with France, with its people, and with all those who still live with that unimaginable pain and loss.

On this sad anniversary, let us also remember how in the face of terror, solidarity prevailed over division. I will never forget the video of a pregnant woman hanging from the Bataclan theatre windowsill, saved by a survivor who risked his life to pull her to safety. Or the emergency, security and healthcare workers who ran towards danger to help others. The neighbours who opened their doors to strangers. This is what it means to be European - and that will never be taken away by fear.

This is a moment of commemoration - but it is also a moment of commitment. Terrorism is an attack on our collective security - on our European values, on peace and tolerance in our societies. It is a threat to us all, and we will never - ever - tolerate it.

This House remains committed to fighting terrorism. To combatting radicalisation, protecting our people, and preventing other families from enduring the same pain. This is the message I will carry with me on Thursday, when I represent the European Parliament in Paris.
